November is National Hospice and Palliative Care month, when programs across the country look to raise awareness about hospice and end-of-life care options. Hospice is a focus on living as fully as possible, despite a life-limiting illness.
A few facts based on 2018 numbers:
51% of all Medicare decedents received hospice benefits, up 4% from the year before.
61% of Medicare hospice patients were 75 years old, 22% 65-74 and 16% under 65.
Cancer is the top primary hospice diagnosis with 30% of total hospice patients. The other tope hospice diagnosis are: Cardiovascular, Dementia, Respiratory and Stroke.
28% of patients received the hospice benefit 7 days or fewer. More than half of patients were enrolled in hospice of 30 days or fewer.

Hospice Care enhances physical, emotional and spiritual well-being for patients, families and loved ones. All related services, equipment and medications 100% included in the hospice benefit.
